Nia with Alexandra - practical & technical tips

  • Nia is best danced barefoot to stimulate the body and make movements more precise; if you prefer, wear non‑slip socks or shoes with soft, thin soles — regular socks are too slippery.

  • Wear comfortable movement clothes and consider something to put on or take off at the beginning and end of class; choose something that inspires you in the moment.

  • For the floorplay at the end of class, bring a blanket or mat and, if needed, knee pads for Nia 5 Stages.

  • A 2 × 2 m clear space facing your monitor is sufficient; more room is better.

  • With wireless headphones you can also dance outdoors.

  • For better audio quality, connect an external speaker, preferably via an aux (3.5 mm) cable; Bluetooth can sometimes cause small delays and may affect Wi‑Fi.

  • Test whether your internet connection is more stable via a LAN cable than over Wi‑Fi.

  • During class, please mute your microphone; because of the required wiring I may not be able to hear you at the start or during the lesson, so use the chat or visual hand signals if you want to communicate.

  • If the stream stutters, turn off your video; the recording contains only my video.

  • I stop the recording after class and then we can chat.

  • Zoom is constantly updated; please make sure you have the latest version before each class (updates take less than a minute), since an outdated version can affect music volume (usually making it too quiet).
